David graduated from University of Calgary in 1985 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After that he began experimenting with acrylics and how flexible and unique they could be to work with. It was the beginning of the involvement with abstract art. Wanting to become a better landscape artist  he ventured into plein air painting to be able to experience the true beauty that Mother Nature had to offer. David has always loved hiking, canoeing and camping and combined with painting  was just a perfect fit. He began shaping, cutting and adhering a gel cast acrylic to his landscape surfaces with the end result producing pictorial vocabulary that describes nature differently and opens new insights. " The new direction in my work is more like processing nature" he said. He currently works as a Production technician for the Glenbow Museum in Calgary.
